چکیده

The observation of the T meson [1,2] as a narrow resonance in e l ec t ron-pos i t ron annihilations in the DORIS storage ring indicates that the T is a bound jPC = 1 state of a new quark and its antiquark. If this interpretat ion is correct, there should be narrow excited states of the T, in analogy with the J / ¢ family. The FNAL experiment [3], which originally discovered the q" in p ro ton-nuc leus interactions, found evidence for further peaks in the mass spectrum at 10.0 ( T ' ) and 10.4 ( T " ) GeV. As the T, T ' and T " are generally interpreted as 1S, 2S and 3S states, the determinat ion of their exact mass is of great importance: once the level spacing between the different T states and their decay widths are known, the shape of the q u a r k q u a r k interaction potential Can be determined with high accuracy [4,5].

Pentaquark Searches in Electron-Positron Annihilations and Two-Photon Collisions at LEP

The past 18 months have seen extraordinary developments in the field of hadron spectroscopy. Several experiments have reported strong experimental evidence of narrow exotic baryon resonances with quantum numbers indicative of the existence of bound states beyond the canonical constituent-quark model view with two or three (anti-)quark bound states. Permitted within the framework of Quantum Chro...

Prospects for Pentaquark Searches in e+e− Annihilations and γγ Collisions

Recent strong experimental evidence of a narrow exotic S = +1 baryon resonance, Θ+, suggests the existence of other exotic baryons. We discuss the prospects of confirming earlier experimental evidence of Θ+ and the observation of additional hypothetical exotic baryons in e+e− annihilations and γγ collisions at LEP and B Factories.

Analysis of electron – positron annihilation into hadrons in the range of energies above 60 GeV shows that apart from two jet events, there are evidence for three jet events that according to the QCD theory interpreted as a gluon radiation by a quark. However, the higher order diagrams lead to four jet events. In this paper, we study the fragmentation of quarks and gluons into hadronic jets . ...

Observation of an anomalous positron abundance in the cosmic radiation

Positrons are known to be produced in interactions between cosmic-ray nuclei and interstellar matter (“secondary production”). Positrons may, however, also be created by dark matter particle annihilations in the galactic halo or in the magnetospheres of near-by pulsars. The nature of dark matter is one of the most prominent open questions in science today. An observation of positrons from pulsa...

Recent b-physics results from OPAL

The most recent b-physics results from the OPAL experiment at LEP are reviewed. A measurement of semileptonic B meson decays to narrow orbitally-excited charm mesons is presented first, followed by a study of charm production in b-hadron decays. Here, B refers to B and B mesons and their charge conjugates, and b-hadron refers to the admixture of hadrons containing a b quark produced in electron...
